V Vladimir Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition

The V Vladimir Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition is happy to announce the start of accepting applications for participation in the V Competition which will be held in March 2023. Seven years have passed since the first competition which took place back in 2015. Three competitions were held in traditional live format and two online due to the coronavirus pandemic. All competitions have shown how popular and beloved is the art of piano playing, and what excellent young performers and creative forces are hidden in the most remote corners of Russia and the CIS countries. The main goal of our competition has always been to identify and support talented musicians. The competitions became an important artistic event in the world of music, revealing the names of remarkable young pianists such as Alexandra Dovgan, Daniil Kharitonov, Shio Okui, Alexander Malofeev, Jang Hung Choe, Ryan Martin Bradshaw, Roman Borisov, Eva Garet, Shao Ziyu and Elisey Mysin who are already performing in major Russian and international venues. Among the numerous young performers’ contests the Krainev competition occupies a special place: it is distinguished by a unique atmosphere of openness and friendliness, and at the same time high requirements for participants. The Artistic Director of the competition, Alexander Romanovsky, notes that “... building bridges and connections that can subsequently have a significant impact on the lives of our participants have always been considered the most important task of the competition.” The upcoming concerts at the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre of the prizewinners of past competitions Vladimir Timofeev, Valentin Malinin, Evgeny Ivashko and Shio Okui (September 30, "Bach. Only Masterpieces") and Alexandra Dovgan (October 23, recital) are a graphic evidence of this. The V Competition will be held as follows: the first two rounds - qualifying and preliminary auditions - on video recordings. The live competition auditions, which will consist of recitals in the semi-final and orchestra performances in the final round, will be held in the halls of the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre and will be open to the audience. Traditionally, the V competition will bring together young musicians from 8 to 22 years old and will end with a winners’ gala in 2023 at the Svetlanov Hall of the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre. The competition’s organizer the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre will sign contracts with prizewinners of the V Krainev competition for performances in the 2023/24 season.
